Specific Academic Regulations
ACADEMIC METHODOLOGY
a) First Phase
- Venue
The program classes will be taught in the ISDE headquarters
- Class schedules
Regular sessions will be given from 10:00 to 14:00 from Monday to Friday or 15:00 to 19:00 from Monday to Friday. The Academic department could also add/move classes or join both groups in the morning or evening. Times could be adjusted depending on certain reasons. Students will be informed in advance.
- Academic structure and evaluation method
- Preparation and development of classes
In order to enhance the understanding and learning of the different sessions, students should prepare their classes appropriately before attending if required.
In this sense, it is the responsibility of students to prepare any theory, case studies, study and / or reading of any general or specific materials for such purposes, recommended by the teacher.
Accordingly, following the teacher’s instructions, the Academic Coordinator of ISDE will distribute any kind of documentation that should be received in advance or after the given session to students.
- Grading system
During the first phase of the program, teachers will evaluate students on the basis of the theory exams, test and / or case studies that they have requested.
Also, both attendance and participation in class, punctuality and a student’s interest, will specifically be taken into consideration.
The scores for the student activities will range between 0 and 10, 5 shall be considered a pass and 10 the highest possible score.
For guidance, some useful criteria to evaluate the exercises are the:
- Adequacy of the response to the question
- Correction of the contents of the answer
- Complexity of the reasoning of the solution provided
- Management and proper citation of legal texts and jurisprudence
- The style with which the answer to the question has been given
The ISDE Academic Coordination shall provide students with the scores and model solutions of the theory exams, test and / or case studies if available, as soon as possible and after receiving them from the teachers after the completion and correction of the test in question.
Thus, in addition to consulting their score, students can check the reasoning of the responses and any possible errors they made.
These solution proposals or models will be published by the Academic Coordinator of ISDE in the E-learning platform of the program, to which the students will have access through their respective user keys and they will have to access to it on daily basis to check whether there is any new documentation of the several subjects.
The giving of solutions to exercises do not exclude, in any case, the possibility that the teacher may set a date to review students tests if they are not satisfied with their scores and / or if they request the possibility of talking about a specific issue. Students wishing to review the final grade for a subject must inform the Academic Coordination within a maximum of 48 hours after receiving the information regarding the grade.
Students must send the Academic Coordinator of ISDE any work given by the teachers by email or upload it to the web platform. The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for submitting all of the pieces of work together to the teacher on the date determined by him or her. No work will be accepted if submitted after the established deadline.
To be awarded a pass for the first phase of the Master, the student must pass (that is, not obtain a grade of less than 5) 90% of the subjects and the final exam. In order to begin the second phase of the program, the student must have passed the First Phase.
b) Second Phase
During the second phase of the program, students are incorporated into the regular activities of Law Firms, companies or institutions for 3-6 months. Dates to start second phase will directly depend on the type of course followed by students, meaning that all those students following a double master (Acceso plus Master in International Sports Law) should follow Máster de Acceso dates for their second phase. The starting date of the second phase will be determined by the firms in which the internship is to be carried out.
During the training process, a tutor will be assigned to each student. Said tutor will be responsible for the training of students, and carrying out periodic monitoring of their work.
The placement destination will be determined by the Academic Direction of ISDE after having interviewing students and after having contacted the Law Firms, companies or institutions.
During the second phase of the Master, students must follow the indications of the tutor that has been assigned in the Law Firms, company or institution and he/she will also have to adjust to their pace of work.
The results obtained by the student during the Second Phase of the Master will form part of his/her transcript.
The tutor will be in touch with the Academic Direction of ISDE regarding any issue related to the student.
In order to achieve a pass in the second phase of the Master, the students must pass (obtain a grade equal or greater than 5) the evaluation carried out by the tutor of their internship and the Practical Final Case.
i. Determining the destination for the internship
Depending on the profile of each student, the Academic Director, along with the Department of Professional Careers will determine the possible Law Firm, company or institution most suitable for each student, after having interviewed him/her and having contacted the appropriate internship destinations. To be able to do this the specific or usual requirements and characteristics (such as academic grades, knowledge of languages or specialization in a particular legal area) required by each firm shall be taken into consideration, to ensure that the student chosen for the internship fits as well as possible with said profile.
Students should not contact law firms, companies or institutions directly with the objective of them becoming their internship destination, given that the determination of the destination for the internship corresponds exclusively to the Academic Director and the Professional Careers Department, in agreement with the firms. Students following a double master (Acceso plus Master in International Sports Law) should follow those master’s procedures. These procedures will be explained to students by the Máster de Acceso internship coordinator.
Students will have to sign, before starting, a Letter of Commitment with the Firm/Company/Institution where he/she will be carrying out the internship.
Travel, insurance and subsistence expenses in the city of destination of the Firm/Company/Institution will have to be afforded by the student, who will also be responsible for dealing with the necessary procedures to obtain visas or other administrative permissions required by the receptor state.
The student will be also responsible to obtain any visa or any administrative permission to stay in Spain and any trip scheduled during the Master. He/she will be also responsible for all the economic costs for the mentioned process.
c) Final Exam and Case Study to be resolved by students
To end the program of the Master the students will have to pass the final exam, as well as presenting- by email and before the deadline communicated by the Academic Director - a practical final case study related to the areas of law covered during the internship in the Firm / Company / Institution where he/she has carried the second phase of the program, which will be corrected and evaluated. Should the internship destination not accept that the student use a case as the information source for the case study, the student will be allowed to do a thesis instead.
The subject will be proposed by students and approved by the Programme Direction. ISDE reserves the right to present the case studies prepared by the students to the Editorial Board of Difusión Jurídica, which will assess the possibility of publication and / or dissemination in any of its publications or computer media.
i. Student's final grade
The student’s final grade will be obtained using the following scale:
- Scores of teachers: 40% of the total grade. The note of each subject is weighted on the total workload of the first phase (90 % of the subjects should be passed)
- Final Exam of the first phase (practical case + teachers questions): 20% of the total grade.
- Internship: 25% of the total grade.
- Final Case Study for the second phase: 15% of the total grade.
To obtain the Masters degree it is imperative that the student passes (obtains a grade equal to or greater than 5) both in the first and the second phase of the Programme and also that the final grade of the Master is equal or greater than 5.
Upon completion of the Masters, the Academic Council may award honourable mentions to students deemed most outstanding, as regards academic performance during the course.
